QR code business cards: what to include
vCard or a profile link, which fields matter and why extra data hurts scanning.
vCard or profile link
| vCard | Profile link | |
|---|---|---|
| Saved to contacts | instantly, one tap | manually |
| Needs internet | no | yes |
| Can be updated later | no | yes |
| Pattern density | higher | lower |
For most printed cards vCard is more convenient: the contact lands in the phone immediately. A link suits a detailed portfolio or details that change often.
Fields to fill in
- Must have: full name, mobile number with country code, work email.
- Good to have: company and job title — they help find the contact months later.
- Optional: website or portfolio.
- Skip: long office addresses, several numbers and notes — they make the pattern dense.
Every filled field adds modules. The denser the pattern, the bigger you have to print it, so keep only what people will actually need.
Phone format
Always add the country code, e.g. +44 20 7946 0000. International format dials correctly from any country.
