Event QR codes: straight to the calendar
Which fields to fill in, how to handle time zones and when a registration page is the better choice.
How it works
The code stores the event in calendar format: title, place, start and end time. After scanning, the phone offers to add it to the calendar with a reminder.
iPhone recognises events with the built-in camera. On Android support depends on the scanner — Google Lens adds the event, while some apps only show the text. Print the date and time next to the code as well.
What to fill in
- Title — recognisable a month later: “Design talk at the city library”, not “Meeting”.
- Place — address or venue name; the calendar will offer directions.
- Start and end — exact times; for festivals use the real opening hours.
Times are saved in the time zone of the device that creates the code. If the event is in another city, double-check the hour guests will see.
