Link QR codes: shorter is safer
Why link length matters, what to do with UTM tags and how to avoid dead codes after a site move.
Link length and pattern density
Every character becomes modules. A 20-character address gives a large, airy pattern; a 200-character link with tracking tags gives a fine grid that scans slower and tolerates crumpled paper and glare worse.
| Link length | Pattern | Minimum size on paper |
|---|---|---|
| up to 30 characters | large, sparse | about 2 cm |
| 30–80 characters | medium | 2.5–3 cm |
| 80–200 characters | dense | 3.5 cm and up |
UTM tags without the bloat
Tags show in analytics how many people came from a flyer or a window. Keep two or three — source and campaign — or use a short redirect on your own domain.
Make a separate code for each placement. Batch mode creates them all from a list of links and packs them into a ZIP.
If your site moves
The code is static: the link is baked in. If the domain changes, set up redirects from old pages so printed codes keep working.
