Crypto wallet QR codes: no address typos
Which formats wallets understand, how to verify the address and why the network matters.
Why a code instead of an address
A wallet address is a long string. One wrong character sends funds nowhere, and blockchain transfers cannot be reversed. A QR code passes the whole address without manual copying.
Formats
| Network | Link format | Amount in code |
|---|---|---|
| Bitcoin | bitcoin:address?amount= | supported |
| Ethereum and tokens | ethereum:address | depends on wallet |
| Other networks | network:address | depends on wallet |
Verifying the address
- Copy the address from the wallet itself.
- Compare the first and last six characters in the code and the wallet.
- Scan the finished code with your own phone.
- Send a small test transfer first.
State the network next to the code: the same token exists on several networks, and a transfer on an unsupported one can be lost.
